Does My Car (2007 E92 335i) Have a BMW Performance Exhaust?

Hi all,

New member here. I just picked up a 2007 BMW 335i Coupe last weekend, so I'm not very familiar with it yet.

I'm enjoying the car stock for now, but while I was browsing Craigslist, I came across a guy selling a BMW Performance Exhaust system for an E92/93 335i (Part Number 18102208799). I was curious about how different the Performance Exhaust was from the stock system, so I took a peek under my car. To my surprise, the exhaust under my car matches the one in the listing almost exactly. So what's the case here? Does my car have a BMW Performance exhaust on it? Or is the seller trying to pass off a stock system as a BMW Performance one?

The exhaust system on my car right now isn't particularly loud at idle, but does make a bit of noise when the engine's under load. I looked at several 335i's before I bought this one, and I didn't notice that this one sounded different.

Pics of the system on Craigslist (borrowed pics):

Thanks for any information you guys can provide.

Judging by your tips you do not have PE. Check if the left tail pipe has a flapper valve in it; if it does then it's stock exhaust. The PE exhaust does not have this, and the tips are bigger.

They do look very similar though. The internal construction is different, that's where the extra noise comes from.

Thanks for the insight. The left tail pipe does indeed have a flapper valve in it, so I'm guessing that this is not the PE system. Weird how the numbers stamped under it are the same though

Post a sound clip of your current exhaust.

The PE is significantly louder than factory setups. Although the rounded tips on your car suggest it's not a PE like someone said above.

Big tell is the clamp in the middle on the PE, stock system has a welded pipe, the Performance Exhaust has a small clamp that allows for individual muffler adjustment, also rolled tips on stock vs. single thin tips.

The one in the listing looks like PE though. Non rolled tips, no flapper and clamp in the middle.

But you can get the PE exhaust new for $596 shipped from Ticsher or about $510 from another site before shipping.

I saw that deal mentioned in another thread. I thought that particular PE was only for N55s?

They just dropped the price on E90 N55 PE to $500-$600. They are backordered though since everyone and their mother jumped on it. I got my order in a week ago and it should be arriving this week from Germany.

Are you sure?

My previous exhaust (before I had it changed) had the clamps, but I don't believe it was the performance exhaust. Although it had a nice tone to it and you could hear it under load, it's certainly not comparable to what I have now.

I say this because one of the main reasons I wanted to remove the exhaust, was the annoying flapper valve, where whenever I started up my car in the morning, the sound it made reminded me of loose change in the dryer. It made me cringe every time.

Could this have changed in later years? As mine is a 10' E92.

And yes, the valve was located on the left (drivers side) muffler.

Golf tee mod?

golf tee or the plug for the exhaust flapper in the left muffler is pulled. Easy way to tell is pull off the left access panel at the back of the trunk, if you see a connector hanging unplugged someone disabled the flapper. I did it, super easy, takes a minute or two to put it back on, but much better than trying to plug it from under the car.

In the US, if it has a flap it was not PE.
In parts of Europe they have the flap in PE due to regulations.
