Replacing DSC module/coding

Hi,

I'm in the process of retrofitting active cruise control to my 2013 F32 435d. I'll be doing it bit by bit and I have sourced an ACC ABS pump from a 2015 F31 335d which according to my research is compatible. I need to get this fitted and tested before the returns window expires. The physical installation looks fairly simple, but I'm expecting bleeding to be a pain.

Question is, will I need to do any coding for the car to accept the replacement DSC unit? Will be some time before the rest of the retrofit is completed and I need the car to be driveable in the mean time.

Thanks,
Ted

Yes, you will need to code the new DSC module to the car otherwise it will not work proberly. You will have to inject the correct CAFD file and VO code the module.

Thanks for the reply. As it will be some time before the rest of the retrofit is done, will this cause any problems? Can the DSC be coded and work ok without the High ICM and ACC front ABS sensors?

That is dificult to say. You could mount it at code it to the car as VO is right now. Then do a TAL calculation and it will tell you if a "standart" DSC is expected or new expectations to ICM. The standart ABS censer should work.

Forgot to say, ISTA will also tell you if the DSC will not work in that configuration.

Yes it will probably work but TAL calculation might show wrong hardware but if you just code the right values it should be OK. Usually the a lower version is missing coding parameters while high versions often have more values to enable things but also can be disabled.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like I'll be fitting the ICM High around the same time as the DSC pump so hopefully it will all play nice. The radar sensor might not be mounted by then but I will try to connect it to the ICM so all three main components will be there.

I'm pretty much there with knowing what to do physically to get this working but have a question, maybe for a different section of the forum. I need to connect the CAN bus wires from the ACC sensor to the ICM but I'm assuming my ICM plug in the car won't have anything in the two pins required. How do I do this?

Thanks

ACC sensor is optional so don’t need to plug it in at all yet. I believe it’s only part of the Driving Assitant plus package / 5DF so if you code only 544 it doesn’t need to be connected because of the coding it is not looking for it. If you then got time to connect you can code the car correctly.

According to the pins, you need to a crimp-tool and pins: https://www.te.com/en/product-CAT-M8793-T273.html
And https://www.te.com/en/product-58611-1.html

Lot’s of them available on AlieXpress on EBay

Perfect, thanks.

One more question - the only part I don't have ordered yet is the steering wheel buttons. I'm trying to do this 'on the cheap' and have done well so far but can't find the buttons for under £220. As the extra buttons only set following distance, are they necessary for getting the system to work in the first place? I'm happy with the default following distance and I think maybe that's changeable via idrive anyway?

Thanks

I don’t think they are necessary but you might get LIN_variant errors so look pay attention to the coding values of
LIN_variante_MFL:
LIN_variante_LRE:
LIN_variante_SZL:

LRE: lenkrad Elektronik
SZL: SchaltZentrumLenkrad
MFL: MultiFunktionLenkrad

MFL refers to the button layout.

Default distance value is changeable in the coding of the ICM, not changeable in idrive
