How to test high beam assistant in daylight?

Hi!

I want to know how I can test the high beam assistant in daylight? Since in Finland it isn't dark enough at night in summertime!

Little background for my question: I wanted to install homelink mirror to my E91. I had autodim mirrors already and the high beam assistant, no clown nose though. So I found mirror from -07 M5 on Ebay which had homelink + clown nose also.

I was able to switch the mirror and it worked almost perfectly: I was able to use homelink buttons, mirrors dimmed ok and rain sensor worked. Only thing I wasn't able to test was the high beam assistant - when I turned on the assistant by pushing stalk forward and covered the sensor in front of the mirror with my hand, high beams didn't turn on.

Does the high beam assistant react to other sensor as well (like the light sensor next to rain sensor)?

Hopefully you guys can help me out!

cover the upper half of the windshield, as the hihgbeam assistant uses a camera, and possibly the rain/light sensor

Thanks Placey, that is what I was thinking too...

If someone could just confirm that this method (cover assistant camera + rain/light sensor) works. Could someone test it who has working high beam assistant? Because mine doesn't work if that is right way to try it...

You can't get it on a 3'er in the US.

Bump!

Please, could someone with the high beam assistant test that will it turn high beams on by covering the camera in mirror "foot" and light sensor in windshield (next to rain sensor)?

Hi I've had my car a couple of weeks - and it has HBA - It works really well!!

High Beam Assist is a bit more sofisticated than I had thought - so it may be hard to "test" witout going out for a spin...

Main Beams are normal "Dipped"

High Beams don't come on until you go over approx 30MPH
They Dip again when you go under 25MPH

(This is handy round towns, but not so handy round my narrow country lanes where I am often under 25MPH, but would like the main beams on!!)

Things I have noticed (not done a lot of night driving yet - gets dark about 21:30 in the UK at the moment)

Speed Sensitive - see above
Dips when you go into an area lit with streetlights
Dips when on-coming car approaches
Dips when there is a car infront (must be able to "see" the rear light)

In all - its very impressive - never had to override it (apart from driving slowly down narrow lanes!)

So to test - I think you will have to cover the sensor and then go out for a drive over 30MPH
