ABS Pump failure - ball park costs?
Hi Guys and Gals,
Sods law occured this morning.. Car has been faultess as per normal.. Today is MOT day and as I pull off up the road the ABS light comes on (with some other associated ones).. I get to the MOT Garage which happens to be my Local Indie.. They say the ABS pump has gone... Ball park quote £1000... Any thoughts? Being a positive man.. the car sailed through the rest of the MOT... Cheers Tarbs |

On a 6 cylinder engine the full part (mechanical pump and electronic module) costs around £1,800. The mechanical unit (repair kit) is around £900.
Send the whole unit to ECU Testing and the cost will be approx £250 including testing, repair and return postage. Do not send to BBA Reman. On a 4 pot the repair kit mentioned above is about £200.

ABS pump refurb
Yeah, go to www.ECUtesting.com and fill out the online form with the part number of the unit and they'll let you know if they can repair/refurb it. If they can, remove and send it to them and once they get it they'll turn it around in 3 days with text updates to let you know what's going on (£255). I got mine back last Thurs and mechanic fitted Fri morn and so far so good. Forget BMW. Get yourself a good indie and it'll be all sorted for a fraction of the price. Thoroughly reccomended.

Guys - thank you ever so much for this.
It has turned out to be an interesting saga. Because I am time bound this is going to be a bit squeaky.. I am certainly not paying the ridculous price that BMW want.. My Indie, who I really do see in a different light after my last two visits, doesnt want to get involved in the whole ECUTesting.com thing.. So i took the car back (MOT doesn't run out till the 28th Feb) and a mate is going to look after the car and get it to his Indie who said he will sort it all in for about £400. Will keep you posted. |

all 4 cylinders are cheap by comparison, the repair kits around £142.80+VAT plus fining and brake fluid and fault clearing, therefore making it look damn cheap compared with a 6 cylinder model

Instead of starting a new thread i thought I'd revive this one... So, the abs light came up on the dashboard the other day, with two other lights, the hand break light (in yellow) and can't remember the other one, I used the code reader and the codes that came up where
005DF0 - pump motor faulty 005DF1 - pump motor connector damaged I've had a look around a few other forums, and it's seems to be a VERY common problem with the 07 year, I've seen people say it could vary from Faulty wheel sensor Faulty steering angle sensor Faulty wheel bearing Battery on the way out (low voltage) ABS pump I've had the car just under two months, it's under warranty with 'Warranty first' for another month, so my plan is to book it in with BMW and let them fiddle about. What is the most likely scenario? A nackered sensor? or the worst case, the pump? |

For those codes it is definitely the ABS unit. They are etched in my brain. Send the whole unit to ECU Testing after phoning them or filling out their online form.

Took the car into Bmw today, but as I pulled off, the lights disappeared..decided to take it in anyway because they'll no doubt return.. BMW rang to say the lights have not come back on since they've had it, but the codes are still there, and the pump will need replacing at some point, so it's over the the warranty company to see if they give the go ahead!
Seems to be a very common fault on 07 plates! |
