version gives KL30E Voltage, as shown on my ScreenPrint. BG version does NOT show AMPS/Current for KL50 during cranking. You should be OK using INPA for KL30E & KL30L voltages. I would suggest doing the "Repeat Tests" I described earlier. Since you have ISTA: ![]() 1) See the attached pdf: "ISTA Fault Memory & Test Plan" which gives an overview of how to use ISTA Test Plan (Directed Diagnosis -- flow chart style -- to test WHY a particular Fault is occurring. I would select the "C90B" JBBF Fault to test first, as THAT is the one related to PT-CAN bus. 2) ISTA has some details on HOW to diagnose a CAN bus fault. At the opening "Vehicle Information" screen, click "Vehicle Management" Menu, "Troubleshooting" Submenu, and "Text Search" Tab. Enter "Bus Diagnosis" in "Search string" box, and you should get a multi-page "FTD" or Vehicle Technical Document" which discusses HOW to Test for bus faults. Attached are first two screens of that document. I have NOT had or diagnosed a bus fault (YET ;-), so YOU are the designated "Beta-tester" to enlighten all the rest of us HOW you do that. ![]() Hope we can ALL learn something from your Endeavors. Great!!!
A lot to read and test!!! Hopefully I can give back some new knowlegde to all!!! For me, this trip (trying to fix my car) has been really enlightening thanks to you. I came from the analg era (I learned with carburators and distributors) so this CAN-Bus thing is new and challenging. I will report back with findings and Beta-Test results. THANKS |

Hello Again!!!
Good News and Bad News.... The bad news: I couldnt connect to my car using ISTA. I think it needs KL15 to read it. TE GOOD NEWS. Tried INPA on another computer and with BimmerGeeks cable and it read all the modules and the status of P/N and brakes. Also KL30E so i think this confirms that this should be something "silly-simple" causing this issue. ELV is not sending release signal to CAS and I cant read ELV ID or Status. (could this be the culprit?) Yesterday I read INPA and ISTA Tutorials and those a GREAT/AMAZING documents George!!!! THANKS for those and for your time and invaluable help!!! I feel we are close to the solution. In the next post I will attach new screen captures taken with the new INPA instalation and BimmerGeeks Cable. As per the CAN-Bus Diagnose I still need to read and understand more... It talks about some resistors located in specific places for each car but still need to investigate what to do with them |

Summary: 1) ISTA can't connect: please save ScreenPrint of any Error Message or whatever screen you get when you try to connect (click Read Out Vehicle Data Tab). You MAY need to simply change a setting: Administration (click wrench icon in Icon Bar at top of Screen > VCI Config Tab > "Ediabas default settings" under "Interface type". Some ISTA versions need to have that setting selected on FIRST use only, and it is then retained. 2) I don't understand WHY the PT-CAN Modules did NOT appear on your FIRST INPA FJ > F2 ID Screens. BUT at this time, ALL FIVE are present, 12 DME through 29 DSC. HOWEVER, some of the Modules which appeared on ID List (AND F4 Error Memory Screens), NOW are missing: 36 TEL/MULF & 37 AMP (??). 3) Your Gear PN signal is NOW appearing on Digital Terminal Status Screen, BUT NONE of the KL15 Bar Graphs show any Voltage on Analog Terminal Status Screen. 4) So at least at the moment those latest Screens were printed, KL15 was NOT being activated by CAS, BUT you DID have PT-CAN bus communication with JBE Module. So you can forget about inspecting X14271 at the JBE, and testing for PT-CAN line issues. Questions: 1) Does your vehicle HAVE an ELV? I realize your vehicle is "ECE", but after ~ 1/1/2007, vehicles sold in US did NOT have ELV. My 328xi has NO ELV, and I get the SAME screen (all "zeros") you posted for "ELV Ident". HOWEVER, on my "System Status Terminal Control" screen, I have TWO circles filled that your latest screen does NOT: (1) Key Lock, (2) ELV Release. 2) Please save/post Fault Code Definitions & Details via following CAS Screen: INPA > CAS > F4 Error Memory > F1 Read Error Memory I'll translate the German if you post the screens (unless YOU speak German ;-) Here are BMW Fault Code Lookup Definitions of your three CAS Fault Codes, but the requested INPA screens should contain MORE info: A0AA | CAS: Control module fault | cas A0B5 | CAS: Fault, road speed signal | cas D904 | CAS: K-CAN wire fault | cas If you can get ISTA to work, you may find that easier to use to diagnose this particular issue. I'll add Ignition (KL15) Activation procedure to next post. George |

SOLVED!!!!!
** This problem was solved by a software reset/update/rewrite done by Leo From BIMECU. It looks like the problems is caused by ELV blocking CAS or something like that.
THANKS to everyone that wrote here SPECIALY to @gbalthrop (George) for all the time and knowledge shared with us!!!! Next step is fixing FRM3 which became damaged due to battery connecting/disconnecting during all this time. If i can help in any way to someone with a similar situation i will do!!! THANKS GEORGE!!!! |

Hi all, I am having a similar issue. After checking the fuse for my cooling fan that wasn’t turning on the glove box light turned off, thought that I maight have blown that fuse or the lightbulb itself and didn’t think to much about it, but when I went to turn the car on nothing happened. I tried inserting the key fob in the slot and it does not lock in place. When I push the start button it shows the car on the lift symbol and an exclamation point. The windshield wipers come on and I can’t turn them off until I pres the start button again. The car can be locked and unlocked with the remote still.
I did some research online and I ordered a new Relay that goes to the fuse box in the glove compartment but nothing changed. I recharged the battery as well but nothing with that either. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I have a 2009 e93 335i with comfort access. |
